Sarah has extensive experience assisting individuals with the proper planning of their estates, which covers everything from minimizing taxes to planning for guardianship of young children. She helps individuals plan for death and incapacity by drafting necessary documents (wills, trusts, power of attorney, living will, living trust, etc.) and assists with the administration of estates of deceased or incompetent individuals.
Prior to joining McGuire, Wood & Bissette, Sarah served as judicial clerk for the Honorable Thomas A. Higgins with the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. She has served as president of the Young Lawyers Section of the Buncombe County Bar Association, and is a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the American Bar Association.
Sarah serves as a Board Member of the Asheville-Mountain Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, is on the School Management and Planning Committee at Claxton Elementary, and volunteers regularly with Pisgah Legal Services' "Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyer" program. Pisgah Legal Services and the 28th Judicial District Bar nominated Sarah for the 2009 NCBA William L. Thorp Pro Bono Award. Sarah also serves as Moderator of the Permanent Judicial Commission for the Presbytery of Western North Carolina, and teaches the Senior High Sunday School class at First Presbyterian Church of Asheville.
