Rick is a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional), a distinction he earned through the Green Building Certification Institute. As a LEED AP, he has a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles, as well as the LEED Rating System. He was the first attorney in western North Carolina to earn this credential.
Prior to professional school, Rick was a business consultant in the technology, banking and financial, and healthcare industries in Atlanta, Raleigh, and Boston. He graduated from North Carolina State University as a Caldwell Scholar, where he founded and chaired SATELLITE, a non-profit designed to introduce students from rural North Carolina high schools to science and technology-related education and career paths.
In the community, Rick serves on the board of the Asheville Downtown Association (ADA), the Asheville Independent Restaurant Association (AIR), the North Carolina Natural Products Association (NCNPA), and the Asheville Downtown Improvement District (ADID).
