Sarah Sparboe Thornburg has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors of McGuire, Wood & Bissette, P.A. in Asheville effective March 1, 2010. Thornburg is a member of McGuire, Wood & Bissette’s Wills, Trusts and Estates Team and has extensive experience assisting individuals with the proper planning of their estates. Prior to joining McGuire, Wood & Bissette as an associate in 1998, Thornburg served as judicial clerk for the Honorable Thomas A. Higgins with the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. She has served as president of the Young Lawyers Section of the Buncombe County Bar Association, and is a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the American Bar Association.

Thornburg is a Board Member of the Asheville-Mountain Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, is on the School Management and Planning Committee at Claxton Elementary, and volunteers with Pisgah Legal Services’ "Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyer" program. Thornburg received a Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1990 and a law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1996.
